Vows That Wow: Ava & Connelly’s Wildflower-Filled Texas Hill Country Wedding
✨ Vows That Wow: Each month, our editors review dozens of San Antonio weddings and select the best of the best to feature as our Vows That Wow. ✨
Some wedding venues are chosen for the view, the amenities or the location. For Ava and Connelly Wilson, there was no place more fitting than one that already felt like home.
Set at their family’s Texas Hill Country property in Leakey, Ava and Connelly’s summertime wedding invited guests into a place already filled with meaning. They exchanged vows beneath towering trees along the banks of the Frio River before continuing the celebration with a tented reception tucked among the property’s wildflower fields. With faith, family and gratitude woven throughout the day, the result felt less like transforming a property into a wedding venue and more like creating a celebration that had always belonged there.
The ceremony embraced the natural beauty of the Hill Country setting. With the Frio River flowing nearby and mature trees surrounding their guests, Ava and Connelly kept the focus on the moment itself before transitioning into a reception that brought an entirely new atmosphere to the family property.
What had once been an open piece of land became a fully realized reception space thanks to thoughtful planning and production by VOLARE Planning & Design. Creating a private-property wedding of this scale meant building nearly everything from the ground up, with extensive logistics surrounding tenting, power, catering, rentals, entertainment, transportation and guest comfort. Separate generators supported the reception tent, catering operation and entertainment, while an air-conditioned tent kept guests comfortable through the Texas summer evening.
The end result, however, felt effortless.
Inside the tent, the design embraced the landscape rather than competing with it. Freesia Designs Events filled the reception with romantic summer blooms, fresh greenery and custom bars, bringing a garden-inspired feeling indoors while allowing the surrounding wildflower fields to remain part of the experience. Candlelight and layered details added warmth as the evening settled in.
Illusions Rentals & Designs helped turn the open property into an inviting reception setting with the tent, lighting, décor and rentals needed to make the space feel complete. Every table, chair, place setting and design element had to be brought onto the property and carefully coordinated—a reminder that some of the most effortless-looking weddings require the most thoughtful work behind the scenes.
The guest experience was considered just as carefully. Bartenders4You kept the signature libations flowing throughout the evening, while tableside wine service featured hand-selected bottles imported from France.
And when it came to the culinary experience, one vendor left an especially memorable impression on the couple.
Adesuwa, the talent behind The Curated Plate and Asukar, took care of both sides of the sweet + savory equation, providing catering through The Curated Plate and cake through Asukar. Ava shared that Adesuwa “made every one of our culinary dreams come true.” Her team’s professionalism and kindness earned compliments from guests throughout the evening, while Adesuwa ensured meal service flowed seamlessly from start to finish
Backstory Backdrops carried the greens of the Hill Country setting into custom signage, including an olive green welcome sign that greeted guests as they arrived. Veil Artistry completed Ava’s bridal look with a sleek updo and soft, glowing makeup—the perfect complement to her floral-textured gown and effortlessly elegant style.
But for all the planning, production and details required to create the day, the heart of the wedding remained remarkably simple: bringing their favorite people together in a place their family loved.
As dinner beneath the tent gave way to dancing, the celebration quickly shifted into party mode. Live music carried the reception into the night, and the dance floor stayed packed all the way until midnight. By the final song, the crowd had quite literally danced the floor apart—a pretty good indication that no one was ready for the night to end.
That balance is what made Ava and Connelly’s wedding so memorable. It was elevated without losing the warmth of home, thoughtfully produced without feeling overly produced, and filled with details that complemented the setting rather than distracting from it.
For the team at VOLARE Planning & Design, creating a wedding on a private family property required multiple site visits and months of careful coordination, but it also created an opportunity that a traditional venue simply couldn’t replicate. Every logistical decision worked toward the same goal: allowing Ava, Connelly and their guests to arrive, settle in and experience the property not as a production site, but as home.
Surrounded by wildflowers, gathered along the Frio and celebrating beneath a tent built just for them, Ava and Connelly created more than a Texas Hill Country wedding. They shared a piece of their family’s world with everyone they loved most.
And for one summer night in Leakey, there truly couldn’t have been a better place to say “I do.”
