Vows that Wow Special Feature: Each month, our editors review dozens of San Antonio weddings and select the best of the best to feature as our Vows that Wow.

Ian and Jack Britton’s wedding was a testament to the beautiful surprises that life sometimes brings. They met in a rather unique way—they were paired as Duchess and Duke in the Order of the Alamo’s “Court of Parisian Splendor” for Fiesta 2020. Although COVID canceled the official event in both 2020 & 2021, the couple finally had their moment during a make-up mini-Fiesta in 2021, and the rest, as Ian describes it, “is history.” What started as a blind Fiesta Duke-date led to a love that neither of them could have planned, making this San Antonio Country Club wedding a celebration that felt destined from the start.

Their wedding day design was a vibrant aubergine floral masterpiece thanks to Ian’s dream team – her Mother and Katherine at Sweet August Events. Ian and her Mom had a clear vision that Katherine brought to life with the help of talented local wedding vendors.

The design process kicked off with Save the Dates, which is when the historical botanicals became a focal point. Ian shared: The Girl General had such a knack for hearing us spitball ideas for hours and being able to masterfully design our vision onto paper – we were truly wowed and inspired by their work. We fell in love with the floral composition and became obsessed with the color Aubergine!” Carroll Nelson beautifully addressed and hand delivered the save the dates.

Next, Katherine and her team helped design pieces that complimented their vision. The stunning tablescapes by Debbie at Luxe Event Decor, the absolutely lush florals by Danny at Trinity Flowers and Jessica at Freesia Designs, the custom monogrammed dance floor, and the one-of-a-kind cakes from Cakes by Cathy Young and The Painted Cake – all of it created a cohesive signature look that made The Britton’s day more than memorable!

Ian’s bridal style was nothing short of breathtaking in a chic floral applique Monique Lhuillier gown from Julian Gold Bridal, but it was her walk down the aisle to a special rendition of John Lennon’s “In My Life” that added a sentimental touch. Ian’s Mother lovingly curated a playlist of songs, wanting every piece to feel uniquely like her daughter. The musical trio at Christ Episcopal Church played a thoughtful selection of cherished songs, including a violin solo of “Seek Ye First” and a joyous rendition of “Ode to Joy” as the newlyweds recessed down the aisle, all made possible by Jennifer Holloway, the Assistant Musical Director.

After the ceremony, Jack & Ian’s guests enjoyed a special seated dinner under the twinkling lights on the Country Club lawn and moved into the ballroom for a night of dancing & revelry, with live music by Love & Happiness Band.

Reflecting on the day, Ian shared two unforgettable moments. The first was the joy of getting ready with her closest friends and family, soaking in every laugh and moment before stepping into her gown. The second came after the couple’s private dinner as they walked together onto the lawn to see all of their loved ones gathered together under the beautiful San Antonio sky. With a sweeping view of the magical reception setup and a touching toast from her father, it was a surreal and deeply cherished moment for Ian and Jack.
