✨ Vows That Wow: Each month, our editors review dozens of San Antonio weddings and select the best of the best to feature as our Vows that Wow.

It’s no secret we love an intentional wedding and Marissa and Andrew’s celebration is no exception! From thoughtful design accents to curated food and fashion, every detail of their McNay Art Museum wedding paid homage to their love of art, architecture, family, and Mexican-American heritage.

The couple chose San Fernando Cathedral for their ceremony and The McNay Art Museum for their reception – venues that perfectly showcased their appreciation for San Antonio’s Spanish-style architecture and artistic heritage. Their November 2nd wedding date coincided with Día de los Muertos, allowing them to honor family members who had passed with a modern interpretation of an ofrenda.

The Girl General’s exquisite invitations set the perfect tone long before the wedding day itself. With custom-designed stationery that incorporated elements of the couple’s vision, guests received a beautiful preview of the celebration to come.

The couple’s vision for a whimsical, romantic, and moody wedding came to life through their talented vendor team. Inspired by garden themes from fashion, travels and album art, Scarlet Rose Events created an elegant garden escape through their planning and design, while Scarlet Rose Collective provided beautiful custom signage throughout the space. Luxe Event Decor brought warmth with lush velvet linens, elegant tableware, and stylish cane-back chairs. Additional rentals from A Styled Collection rounded out the sophisticated atmosphere with their curated pieces.

The Vintage Bouquet incorporated delicate monarch butterflies throughout the arrangements – a meaningful nod to Mexico, where they migrate each fall. The most talked-about design feature? The stunning serpentine tables made even more dreamy by greenery arches and crystal chandeliers.

Inspired by the art museum setting, the couple used Andrew’s mother’s original paintings as table name signs instead of numbers – a personal touch that added color and meaning to each table. Family traditions were woven throughout their day – Marissa incorporated the lazzo and arras from her maternal grandparents’ wedding and used the same cojines her parents knelt upon during their own vows. Instead of “something blue,” she chose “something pink” – stunning Manolo Blahnik pumps gifted by her godmother that perfectly matched her pink sapphire engagement ring.

For these self-proclaimed foodies, Rosemary’s Catering designed a menu especially for the couple, incorporating their favorite food and drinks from their travels. Guests enjoyed veggie wontons, ceviche, and Hugo Spritz cocktails during cocktail hour while all-female Mariachi Las Alteñas played classic mariachi songs and contemporary sounds.

Along with “His,” “Hers,” and “Ours” cake flavor creations from Cakes by Cathy Young, guests sampled traditional Pan de Polovo and Polovorones by La Popular Bakery – cookies served at all the couple’s family gatherings. We adore this sweet detail shared by Marissa: “The cake topper we used was one my mom found in a home store when I was a toddler. She bought it hoping one day I would want to use it on my wedding day.” To Marissa it turned out to be the perfect vintage accessory to their day!

Guests captured memories at MBP Photo Booth and danced to The Celsius Band before sending off the couple with the cheerful ringing of miniature hand bells – a creative twist inspired by the phrase “do I hear wedding bells?”

Marissa and Andrew’s celebration was a true testament to the power of finding the perfect vendor team. “We truly feel we created our very own dream-team!” the newlyweds told us. From the cultural touches to the garden-inspired design, every detail honored their heritage while creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Each professional brought their expertise to create a cohesive, memorable event that reflected the couple’s vision. There’s no doubt we’ll be dreaming of this whimsical wedding day! 🤍
