Some weddings are beautiful. Others tell a story in every detail. Natalie and Sam’s April 4 celebration at Kimpton Santo San Antonio did both, bringing together their shared history, cultural traditions, and distinctly personal style for a wedding that felt as meaningful as it was beautifully designed.

Nearly ten years after meeting at Trinity University, the couple returned to the city where their story began to celebrate their next chapter. Their vision centered around a sophisticated palette of green and white, layered with rich bordeaux accents and warm, moody details for an evening that felt timeless, romantic, and entirely their own.

From the ceremony through the reception, Freesia Designs brought that vision to life with thoughtful décor and rentals throughout the day. Green draping framed the ceremony and reception, while white silk tablecloths, monogrammed white linen napkins, and low white-and-green floral arrangements kept the tables feeling elegant without overwhelming the space. Bordeaux lampshades added a dramatic pop of color, while a classic black-and-white checkered dance floor anchored the reception and created the perfect backdrop for a night of dancing.

At the heart of the celebration was an especially meaningful blending of traditions. Natalie and Sam held a Catholic ceremony honoring Natalie’s background, while also incorporating a traditional Persian Sofreh Aghd in honor of Sam’s heritage. The ceremonial spread was carefully curated over months, with Sam’s mother even traveling to Iran to bring back special pieces for the table. Filled with symbolic elements representing love, prosperity, sweetness, and a joyful life together, the Sofreh Aghd became one of the most beautiful representations of the couple’s shared future.

The personal touches didn’t stop there. One of the day’s most sentimental details was Natalie’s Etruscan Revival necklace and matching drop earrings, an heirloom dating to around the 1860s that has been passed down through five generations of her family. Wearing a piece with so much history made it an especially meaningful part of the celebration.

Another detail was uniquely theirs: Azizam, a custom fragrance created specifically for the wedding through Natalie’s fragrance company, Project Fragrance. Meaning “my dear” or “my beloved” in Persian, the fragrance brought together Haitian vetiver, Persian rose and galbanum, and Texas cedarwood—representing Natalie’s Haitian roots, Sam’s Persian heritage, and the Texas home they share. A limited batch of 200 hand-poured bottles gave guests a beautiful, lasting reminder of the day.

Of course, no unforgettable wedding is complete without a few unexpected moments. Rather than a traditional tiered cake, Natalie and Sam opted for a four-foot-long cake featuring vintage piping and cascading white lilies. Created by Cakes by Cathy Young, the lemon cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream was a first for the bakery and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the reception. A dessert table featuring traditional Persian sweets from Baklovah Bakery added another meaningful nod to Sam’s heritage.

Before cutting the cake, the couple participated in Raghs-e-Chaghu, a traditional Persian knife dance where a dancer playfully withholds the cake knife until the couple bribes their way to it. It was one of the evening’s highlights—and exactly the kind of personal, unexpected moment that made the celebration feel so distinctly theirs.

Behind the scenes, Sweet August Events helped bring every moving piece together. With busy schedules and a wedding that thoughtfully incorporated two cultures and countless meaningful details, the couple credited Katherine and her team with making the planning process feel seamless and allowing them to actually relax and enjoy the experience.

The vendor team continued to bring the vision to life throughout the day. Veil Artistry created the couple’s polished hair and makeup looks, while The Girl General brought the paper details and signage together, printing the couple’s letterpress invitations, menus, and programs designed by Ryan Hunter of Studio RH, along with the day’s other custom signage. Squinted Cinema captured the celebration on film, preserving the warmth and emotion of the day, while Dart Collective brought the energy to the reception with a DJ, saxophone player, and percussionist—giving the couple the best of both worlds: the energy of a DJ with the feel of a live performance.

And with Kimpton Santo San Antonio serving as the setting for the celebration, the couple had the perfect backdrop for their return to the city where it all began, with accommodations, catering, bartending, venue, and valet all thoughtfully handled in one place.

More than anything, Natalie and Sam’s wedding was a beautiful reflection of what happens when two people bring their cultures, histories, and perspectives together. “Creating our wedding side by side gave us a meaningful glimpse into our future and the life we want to build together,” Natalie shared.

From the Sofreh Aghd to a five-generation heirloom, a custom fragrance, a four-foot cake, and a packed dance floor, every detail told a piece of their story—and together, they created a celebration that was unmistakably, wonderfully theirs.
